Now that you have found our site, you can use this digital video library in a variety of ways. From the homepage you have several choices.

First, you may search our video library by keyword. If you are looking for video examples of "classroom management" or "professional development," type the term in the search box.

Second, you can click on our "Featured Classrooms" to see some of our best video segments, grouped by the themes of Strategies for Administrators, Teaching and Learning, and Preservice Teachers in Action.

Third, you can "search by content" by clicking on the top navigation bar. Use this page if you are looking for video with a specific content area, grade level, technology used, instructional setting, and/or instructional design.

Fourth, you can "search by professional needs" by clicking on the top navigation bar. Here you search by both who you are and what you would like to see.

Finally, you can choose an "advanced search" from the top navigation bar. This will allow you to conduct a more detailed keyword search.

You can click on the top navigation bar to move between search pages.

Search Options:
Database Selection:
If you choose to search by content, professional needs, or to run an advanced search, you have several options.

First, you can choose a database to search. "Search this site" means that you will be searching on video and radio assets from the public broadcasting series PT3 NOW!, Teaching NOW! and NetFiles, as well as longer form extended classroom segments.

"Search other video sites" will widen the search to include videos produced by other educational institutions and organizations.

Asset Selection:
Second, you can choose the type of asset that you would like to see. The public broadcasting series included in Video Classroom are PT3 NOW!, Teaching NOW!, and NetFiles.

The PT3 NOW! and Teaching NOW! public broadcasting series include both television and radio programs that investigate the relationship between education and technology. The television series includes a combination of classroom segments and accompanying panel discussions where our expert panel analyzes and comments on the content of the classroom segments.

The NetFiles television series shows classroom examples of how teachers can integrate the Internet into their curriculum.

Clicking on "Radio Programs" will return segments from the PT3 NOW! and Teaching NOW! radio series.

Clicking on "Television Programs" will return segments from the PT3 NOW!, Teaching NOW!, and NetFiles television series.

Clicking on "Classroom Segments" will return short form video segments from PT3 NOW!, Teaching NOW!, and NetFiles that are under ten minutes in length.

Clicking on "Extended Classroom Segments" will result in longer form video segments that range in length from ten to thirty minutes.

Clicking on "Expert Panel Discussions" will result in panel discussions from the PT3 NOW! and Teaching NOW! television series.

Viewing Your Search Results:

Search results can include assets such as entire videos or clips, depending on the search you specified. Each result is represented by a still-shot image (or key frame), an asset title, and summary text.

If your search term is found in the transcript or closed-caption text, the search term is highlighted. Time codes beside the text indicate the occurrence of the match.

When you click to play each search result, a separate asset viewer window is launched. From the video viewer, you can further search and navigate within each video. To return to the original set of results, click on the main results page window.

From the results page, the following actions are available to you: Play, Send this clip, and Add to a Playlist.

To Play a Search Result:

  1. Click on the asset key frame to play the result segment.
  2. You can click on a time code to begin playing from the query match. The video viewer page is launched and automatically begins to play your video or clip, either from the beginning or from the designated point in the time code sequence.

To E-Mail a Search Result:
Click the "Send this clip" link to send the asset. The email message contains a URL pointing to the asset.

Note: If you send a link to a result, the recipient needs access to the player (Real or Windows Media) to view the asset. For example, if you send a link to a video, the recipient will need the Real Player or Windows Media Player to view the video. Video Classroom requires Real Player version 8 or newer, or Windows Media Player version 7 or newer.

To Use the Playlist:
You can collect video and clip results into a Playlist to play results sequentially.

  1. To add search results to your Playlist, click on the "Add to Playlist" link.
  2. Once you have a Playlist, click "Play Playlist."
  3. Choose your media player preference.
  4. Once you make your selections, the information is stored in a cookie. If you wish to modify your selections, click Choose Bandwidth within the viewer.

Now that you have found a video or radio segment, you will see that additional resources accompany the segment. These resources are provided to help you incorporate the video and radio segments into your classroom.
